Conversation Series — Imagine Chicago! “Living Room” Conversations on Social Innovation,
Sustainability and Community
Creating Space for Possibility
100 years ago, in 1909, the visionary Plan of Chicago laid out a compelling
picture of a City Beautiful, called upon civic character to realize the goal,
and characterized Chicagoans as a people who can and will act in the best
public interest to realize the vision. It was a work of great imagination and
idealism that significantly shaped what Chicago has become.
As Chicago
celebrates this 100 year anniversary, and has sent one of its most civic
minded citizens to the White House with "no small plans", Imagine Chicago
would like to ask you for your best imagination about shaping a positive
future for Chicago for the next 100 years. What do we most need to
understand? What will it take to unlock the civic commitment of Chicago's
citizens to make this a great city for our
great grandchildren?
Imagine Chicago would like to gather your
questions and visions and use them as the basis for a set of in-person and
online conversations about the next 100 years in Chicago. What questions
are most important to the future of Chicago? What questions are you eager
to gather with other Chicagoans to discuss and learn about? What would
you love to understand better about how to build a sustainable future for
Chicago? What is happening in your community or organization that seems
especially hopeful ?
Imagine Chicago will host intergenerational
conversations about especially promising ideas and social innovations in
Chicago around questions central to Chicago’s future. We hope
to encourage and facilitate conversations about imaginative, inspiring
and practical approaches to community building that will build
confidence in and knowledge about new and inspiring ways of working
together in Chicago. We want to broaden the imagination of Chicago
citizens about what’s possible for Chicago---in an intergenerational
learning community which embodies hope, shares positive stories,
explores issues from a range of perspectives and expands possibilities
for joint action.
