Connecting to Place and Story: A Day of Community Sharing at the Chicago Historical Society

Goals of the workshop:

To think through and bring to creative expression how young adults shape and are shaped by the place in which they live
To explore the power of story to create community identity in a place
To share powerful stories of community connections to place which involve young people as agents of change
To find connections between stories of teenage life around the world that transcend place

8:00 – 8:30 AM Breakfast (Tentatively set at the hostel)

9:00 AM Depart for Chicago Historical Society

9:30 – 10:00 AM Walk through of museum exhibits for those who are interested

10:00 – 10:15 AM Welcome and Orientation to the day and to CHS

10:15 – 11:30 AM Stories that Shape Our Lives

Discussion and activities with Richard Geer and Eve Tolbert

11:30 – 12:00 PM Modeling Storytelling

Interviews, Questions, Discussion

12:00 - 1:00 PM Small Group Activities Connecting Story and Place
